They Ran - A Flash Fiction Short

They didn’t talk to each other. They moved quickly and quietly, winding through the suburban neighborhood just as the dark grey of dawn lightened into morning. One had a bloodied bandage wrapped around his forehead, where a richochet had cut deep when that guy in the suit had started shooting at everyone on I-5. They were lucky, a lot of people hadn’t gotten off the interstate yesterday but they had. All of the obvious ways out of the city were now jammed packed with cars and bodies, all trying to escape what was happening. And, today, those ways out were now death traps.

Zombies - Snippet #3

“It's just an overnight stay hon, nothing serious. The doc just wants to make sure that I'm fine and nothing goes funny.” Allison smiles at me over Sarah's head, her arms wrapped around the snoozing munchkin.
“Go on and head home for a shower, I'll just harass the nurses till you get back.” I want to argue with her, convince her that I'm fine and don't need a shower and a nap, but she knows me too well. While most of them loathe the week long series of lectures and seminars aimed to 'increase synergy' and help them find those 'win-win-win' situations, Charles welcomed them with an enthusiastic smile. What no one else knew was that it wasn't the endless talks or the schmoozing that he was coming for, it was a week in the arms of Chelsea. Beautiful Chelsea from accounting.

The Resort

Erik rounded the corner and ran down the darkened hallway. The howls of pursuit reverberated around him, distorted and ragged. His legs burned and his breath came as jagged gulps, but he didn't dare let up. Erik's shirt clung to him, though he couldn't tell if it was sweat or blood causing it to stick to his skin. He quietly prayed it was sweat, though a part of his mind was certain it was Lisa's blood. They had been hiding out in a maintenance closet since things had gone crazy, only venturing out to scavenge for food and water or to dump the bucket they'd been using for waste out. Lisa had convinced him that things probably had quieted down enough that they could risk a run to the marina, maybe find a boat and get the hell off the island. She was the first out the door when they decided to go.

Zombie - Snippet #1

The jungle was quiet. The rustle of the canopy was hushed. Then, with a thundering crash, the silence was broken. The man fell out of the jungle wall, torn and bleeding. Landing on his face, he slowly pushed himself up and kept moving. His eyes stared ahead not seeing anything.
